Blackboard Image

The structure of a blackboard image with embedded diagrams can be shown as:




Blackboard images are here considered not to be diagrams      diagrams are (expressions in) formal visual languages, whereas blackboard images are informal and conversational, and may contain diagrams as embedded parts.


However, whether a formal structure can be discovered for blackboard type images as a whole is part of ongoing research. An exploratory attempt at a grammar for a subset of blackboard text graphics is up and running.
